2009 Rushlight Awards

The Rushlight Awards are a celebration and promotion of the leading organisations throughout UK and Ireland which have furthered environmental technology and innovation in the fields of renewable energy, clean fuels, power generation, water, waste and pollution management. The event has created a community whose main purpose is to assist in the development of cleantech and in the improvement of environmental standards. This community is made up of the headline partners and sponsors, namely Clarity Authoring, the Institute of Physics, Welsh Power, Kilburn & Strode, and Black & Veatch, over 60 supporting partners, 23 media partners, judges and special guests who together form a resource and a platform of unsurpassed cleantech expertise.

In addition to sponsoring the event, Clarity Authoring are working in partnership with Eventure Media to promote the second Rushlight Awards, to be held on 22 January 2009. The awards will seek to set out the substantial advances that have been made, to promote and support organisations and their achievements so far, and to inform consumers, investors and industry of the progress that has been made, the choices that now exist and the future investment opportunities that lie ahead.

The entries are in, the judging is almost complete and the preparations for the black tie Gala Awards Dinner at the New Connaught Rooms in London on Thursday, 22 January, 2009 have come together well. Some excellent technologies have been put forward and we will be covering many of the winners, commended entries and other entrants. Space can be made for perhaps a couple more tables, so please contact via Clarity for more details and booking arrangements.

The background to the awards is becoming well-known. The Stern Review has made it very clear that there is much to be done. Put in the context of what has already been achieved makes the challenge much more palatable. These awards will recognise and seek to facilitate three of the strategies for decarbonising the power sector identified in the review:

+ boosting low carbon technology;
+ encouraging research and development;
+ informing, educating and persuading individuals about what is available and so what can be done to respond to climate change.

But these awards go beyond the climate change arena and cover waste management too, which is linked but is also an issue in its own right, in the context of dwindling landfill resources and pollution, with the associated health risks.

These awards stand out as the only UK and Ireland wide awards for technology, innovation and commerce that have advanced society’s capabilities to live in a sustainable way. The awards are wholly independent, both in the form of judging and also in the context of not being connected with any particular journal or publication. Every organisation has a fair chance to win a coveted award which will be widely publicised by specialist and general media partners and supporting partners. Indeed, all entries have been invited to be included in the 'Book of the Awards,' which will be made available after the event.

Do come and join us on 22 January 2009 to recognise UK and Irish technology achievements over the last 2 years. You will find that, amongst all the doom and gloom, there is also much to celebrate.
